Mbilla Arts specialise in authentic African drumming and dance workshops.
In their exhilarating drumming workshops students will absorb the richness of African culture and experience traditional African drumming learning authentic rhythms and percussion music from across Africa. Pupils will collaborate with master drummers to learn the art of drumming and fully participate in a rousing and collaborative performance.
All sessions start with an introduction/history of the drums. All traditional drumming equipment is supplied, along with authentic African percussion instruments. Mbilla Arts provide drumming workshops that are fun, inclusive, exciting and energising, that everyone is guaranteed to enjoy. The main benefit is providing an outlet for people of all ages to express themselves through drumming, building self confidence and working as a team. Workshops can also be adapted to suit the fluctuating abilities of children and adults with special needs.

Mbilla Arts dance workshops are fun and lively. They have been professionally developed and specifically designed to introduce participants to the rich culture of African heritage and the African people as experienced in their dances, rhythms and music, which are vital means of expression. Participants will learn how to respond to African rhythms through movement. To broaden their awareness, students will learn about the musical instruments and important cultural aspects of the countries where the dances originated. They will join in and accompany the dances by clapping and singing the rhythmic patterns. The team at Mbilla Arts uses games to break down inhibitions and shyness.
